Larry Lugs Bolt-On Replacement Lugs

“LARRY LUGS”
Patented - Bolt On Replacement Guide Or Drive Lugs

LUG REPLACEMENT DIRECTIONS

(Tools Not Included but needed for installation: ½” Drill Bit, 5/16” Hex Bit)

  1. To replace a broken lug, the track does not need to be removed from the rails, nor does the track tension need to be loosened. If possible, park the machine on timbers or something similar to elevate the loader up off the ground 10” to 18” for the side that is being repaired. If unable, it is not necessary.
  2. Using Bair Product’s 4” Carbide grinding wheel, grind off the excess rubber from the existing broken lug on the inside of the track until you have a flat surface for the new lug to set on.  Do not grind into the Kevlar belt. If you have more than one lug to replace, you can prepare five to six lugs before turning the track.
  3. Place the Drill Template on the track and center it over the area you are replacing a lug. Use a 1/2” drill bit, precisely drill at 90 degrees into the tread. Best if using a reversible drill, reverse the drill back out. Do not over-drill the hole in size.
  4. With the washer located on the topside of the rubber track, install the first bolt that is closest to the body of the machine first. Let the bolt penetrate ½ to ¾” inch through the bottom  side. Hand start the lug 2-4 turns then start the 2nd bolt using on / off with the impact. Also with your hand holding the lug, you will feel the bolt hit the lug. Stop and line up and move the impact and or lug till the bolt drops in. Then alternate torqueing till the head of the bolt is 3/16 to ¼” inch embedded below the top surface of the tracks.

NOTES:
**Do not over torque, stripping may occur. The bolt may extend through the lug up to 3/8”, if greater cut the excess off using a cutoff wheel or grinder.  Do not use a torch.

**If lugs are installed out of square, they will still work, but they will clatter and bind on the drive rollers. They will wear in,…but put stress the drive roller bolts. Same is true for separation or pitch.

**If bottom rollers have excessive wear, the new lugs will make contact with the bottom rear of the frame and may bind as it passes around.  They will still work, but excessive wear will occur on the lug only.

LARRY LUGS ARE REUSEABLE! They are not just a “One-Time Fix”. If the track belt has been destroyed or becomes unusable, unbolt your Larry Lugs and reuse them on a different track.
